i just arrived a couple days ago from thailand.. me and my friend og went to visit some of the small islands there for a much needed r and r! everything was all unplanned!! well, not everything.. we already bought tickets weeks before but we haven't decided yet whether or not to go until the morning of our flydate.
i just woke up at around 5AM and asked og "dayun ta?" thinking that i wouldn't feel that bad if we won't make it coz the weather is sooo great that i still wanna go back to sleep.. but to my surprise as i was about to fall back to sleep, she said "kaligo na!".. weeeeeeeeeeee!!! we huriedly packed our stuffs, took a bath and stormed out the house at 6:30AM!
we arrived at phuket not knowing where to go and what to do.. everything was an adventure! we took a bus to patong beach and decided to stay there for a night and transfer to phi phi don (krabi island) for the following days. phuket's beach was not really thaaat amazing.. i've seen better since i came from a place with 7,101 islands to choose from! we spent our holloween night at bangla road drinking beer at one of the pubs. not everyone was in costumes but it was fun! we transferred the following day to phi phi don and decided to stay there for 2 nights.. it was much nicer there. the place was a bit more paradise compared to phuket where its very crowded. we walked around the little island on our first day and chilled by the beach with some ice cold beer. we've also tasted the best phad thai in the whole world! (thanks a lot to song!).. on that night we've partied at the beach with amazing fire dancers.. it was soooo much fun and we met a lot of people! on the following day we toured the neighboring islands via a long tailed boat ang visited theeeeee best beach ive seen ever!!! it is popularly known as "the beach" since the movie starred by leonardo was shoot in that very same island! the place is called maya bay and it was absolutely AMAZING! i could stay their for weeks or years and never get tired or bored! really! the place is perfect.. "parallel universe" as what the movie described it to be.. oh well, i would definitely visit the place again!! the rest of the day was spent at phi phi don as they celebrated loy krathong, a festival annually held on the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar (which falls every november). just google it for more details. hehehe =))) on our last day, we climbed up to pp viewpoint where you could see the whole island. the view was so worth the thousand steps up to the top of the mountain... later that day, we travelled back to phuket to catch our 8pm flight back to singapore.. we don't wanna go home but we have to, or i mean og has to. hehehe we really had sooooo much fun! the best way to spend my beerday! =)))

backpacking
me and some friends backpacked thailand, laos, and vietnam last month.. it was amazing!! we've experienced different cultures, crossed borders, haggled for cheap deals, slept at cheap hotels, ate local foods, drank local beers, witnessed a jaw dropping performance from girls with "special" powers, got confused with their languages, survived a 25hr bus ride, learned new things, met a lot of people, made new friends, heard different stories and lastly, we had our own stories to tell. don't get me wrong, other forms of travelling is also great.. but with backpacking, you get to see the place a whole lot different.. a whole lot better.
